NOW MAGAZINE: MÉMÈRE MÉTISSE IMAGINENATIVE FESTIVAL

PHOTO_SHOOT.jpg

Winnipeg 20-something Janelle Wookey's engaging home video follows her as she tries to get her grandmother, Cecile St. Amant, to acknowledge the Metis heritage she's spent her entire life reflexively denying. This basically boils down to a lot of good-natured hectoring, interrupted by the occasional testimony of a family member. It's a good thing that Wookey - better known as the co-host of APTN's Friday Night Flick - has such a lively, self-aware screen presence. Otherwise, she'd be really annoying.
